EXCITING NEW LOCATION FOR CHELMSFORD CROQUET CLUB
Chelmsford Croquet Club is delighted to announce its move to a new home at Margaretting Village Hall offering improved facilities and a welcoming space for both experienced players and complete beginners.
Croquet is a fun, sociable outdoor sport that combines skill, strategy, and a touch of friendly competition. Played on a grass lawn, the game involves striking balls through a series of hoops using a mallet. While it has a reputation for tradition, modern croquet is accessible, engaging, and enjoyed by people of all ages.
Throughout our history, we’ve been proud to count members and teams among the winners of local, regional and national competitions—and we fully expect that success to continue in the year ahead. However, at its heart, our club is just as much about enjoyment and community. Many of our members simply come along to have a good time, play a game or two during club sessions, and take part in our friendly internal tournaments.
With the move to Margaretting, the club is inviting members of the local community and surrounding areas to come along and give it a try. No prior experience is needed, and all equipment is provided.
Chairperson Judith Hand says: “Croquet is a game for everyone, no matter how old you are! It’s a great way to unwind and enjoy some time away from everyday life. But when you get to the really good stuff, it’s a fascinating test of your skills and strategies. We’re always happy to welcome new players to the game and the Club, whether they’re just looking for a relaxing game or dreaming of becoming the World Champion.”
Croquet will be played from late April to October on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10 am and 2 pm – all equipment is provided, just being a pair of flat shoes or trainers.
