LETCHWORTH 14 CHELMSFORD 4 Monday 17th August 2015. The level play league fixture at Letchworth, despite the scoreline, was a fiercely contested match lasting well over 7 hours. With Letchworth’s combined handicaps totalling 7 compared to Chelmsford’s 18 every point, indeed almost every hoop, was fought over for as clearances were sometimes achieved from longer distances than thought possible. An example of the struggle was demonstrated in the two doubles games which started the match where the home team scored 12 hoops to our 9 with the games shared after 90 minutes play. Our team of Bob, John S, Paul and Tony continued both before and after lunch to give a good account of themselves but eventually it was apparent that the skills shown by the home team would make the difference. As the shadows lengthened ( it was nearing 6pm) and three of us were busy consuming homemade cakes and cucumber sandwiches Paul was still battling away against a higher ranked player in Peter Ross to secure his second singles win and our 4th point of a seriously long day. Overall hoop score: Letchworth 116 Chelmsford 79
