Chelmsford’s first ever level play Ladies Singles tournament was held on Monday 3rd August. Split into two blocks of six each player was required to play 3 other members of their block. Keen play resulted from this format with only 3 players winning all their games.with Anne Skuse (+13) and Karen Jones (+11) heading their respective blocks. Maureen Foster also won all her games and with a hoop difference of +5 finished in 3rd place. The final between Karen and Anne was a nail biting affair played before a large and appreciative audience. Karen started the final in fine form and lead 5-2. However with the game to be played over 19 hoops Anne had time to catch up and slowly but surely this happened although at 9-8 down she still had work to do. After some tense exchanges Anne won the last two hoops. Congratulations to both players for a final that was played in a sporting and speedy manner.
