Sixteen players took part in the annual Golf Croquet Open Doubles competition last week on fast lawns and in sunshine. Split into 2 blocks each pair played the other 3 in their block. After the third round Christine Gowers and Tony Frewin were outright winners of the second block. Competition in the first block, however, was rather closer with the Joan Black/Paul Bridgman partnership tying with Judith Hand and Alan Toogood on 2 wins each and with an equal hoop difference of +3. As Judith and Alan had won their game versus Joan and Paul they went forward to the final. The final saw Judith and Alan win the first two hoops and lead 4-3 but Tony and Christine eventually ran out winners by 7 hoops to 4. In joint third place came Joan and Paul with Tess Gossett and new member Ernie Bailey.
